Saul Weinreb - Let the Prophets Speak

Elijah runs for his life and travels to the holy mountain to find God.  However, in his zeal for vengeance in God's sake Elijah learns that his path of zeal and violence is not the path God wants from His prophets. Elijah must step down and appoint Elisha as his successor. 

Elijah asks God for a miracle to prove to the people and Ahab who the One True God is.

We read of the encounter between Obadyahu and Elijah, two prophets who had very different ways of dealing with the challenge of the evil Kingdom of Ahab.

We read how Elijah revives the soul of the young son of the widow.

Elijah must rely on the generosity of a poor widow to survive, and he gives a special blessing to her jar of flour and jug of oil.

We learn of one of the most important prophets, Elijah, and his differences with the evil King Ahab.  Living as God commands versus the arrogance of trying to manipulate the gods.

The Northern Kingdom descends into the depths of idolatry and political chaos.

We read of civil war between the North and South, some questionable alliances made by King Asa, and how Ba'asha deposed Nadav in a military coup.

We read of the descendants of Rehoboam, Aviyam and Asa, one who continued in his father's evil path, and the other who restored the worship of God among the people.

The people of Judah stray from God just as their Northern brethren did, and Rehoboam suffers an embarrassing military defeat.
