Joshua 16 - Ephraim‘s Portion

The portion of Ephraim is described in much more abbreviated terms.  Some Canaanite towns accept peace terms.

Joshua 15 - The Daughter of Caleb Speaks Up

We read further details of the division of the land, this time the details of Judah's portion.  Caleb gives his daughter Achsah's hand in marriage to Otniel ben Kenaz, but when the portion they receive turns out to be an infertile plot of land, he is unwilling to approach his father-in-law to ask for something better.  Achsah takes it into her own hands and demands a better plot of land.

Joshua 14 - Caleb Gets his Reward

We take a shorty break from the division of the land to discuss the request of the venerable, aged Caleb. Joshua's old companion from the days of the spies requests that he be given the rights to settle Hebron, as this was the land that he spied out when he was sent by Moses to spy out the land of Canaan.

Joshua 13 - Dividing the Land Among the Tribes

As Joshua neared the end of his life, God points out that now that his fighting years are over, it is time to divide the land.  God promises him that He would help the people of Israel conquer the entire land, so he should divide it all as if it already was conquered. We then begin listing the boundaries of each tribe, beginning with the boundaries of Reuben, Gad and half of Menasseh.

Joshua 12 - The Conquered Kings

The text lists the Kings and territories conquered by Moshe and Joshua as they led the people of Israel.

Joshua 11 - Overtures of Peace are Rejected, Canaan Chooses War

None of the towns of Canaan accept tp make peace with the Israelites, so war it is.  Joshua conquers many more towns and regions, and the people of Israel begin to settle the land.

Joshua 10b - The Battles Continue

Joshua continues to lead the people to victory after victory. As God "recedes" into the background, Joshua reminds the people that even if they don't see overt miracles, He is still there!

Joshua 10a - The Givonites Get Into Trouble and the Sun Stands Still

The Givonites fear of retribution from their kinsmen is realized, and the Amorite kings band together against them.  They appeal to Joshua for help, and the people of Israel respond in full force in support of their new allies.  The battle is won, the five kings are destroyed, as "the sun stands still" over Givon!

Joshua 9 - The Sneaky Givonites

The people of Givon make peace with Joshua, but they secure it through tricky means.

Joshua 8b - A New Type of Conquest

After the conquest of Ai, Joshua recognizes that it is time to remind the people of the purpose of this war.  It is time to fulfill the directive of Moshe, and to teach the people the lessons of the Torah.  It is this that stirs up the united opposition to the Israelites by the Canaanite kings.
