Elijah's disciple Elisha follows in his master's footsteps.  We are impressed by his miracles, but troubled by his wrath.

We read of the ascent of Elijah "into the heavens" and the end of his remarkable "first" career.

Kings 2:1 - Ahaziah Petitions the Lord of the Flies

King Ahaziah falls ill and he sends messengers to a Phillistine god.  Elijah is sent to let him know that he should've petitioned the God of Israel. Ahaziah thus meets an untimely end.

Ahab tries unsuccessfully to escape the prophecy regarding his death, but he dies a heroic death in battle.  Yehoshaphat's attempt at reuniting the kingdom has mixed results, and the next generation of leaders take their place.

Ahab wins another stunning victory against Ben-Hadad, only this time he makes a grave error.

Kings 1:20a - Ahab Leads Israel to Victory

Ben-Hadad of Aram leads a massive attack against Israel, and Ahab follows the advice of a prophet of God and leads the people to a surprising and daring victory.

Kings 1:19 - Where is God?

Elijah runs for his life and travels to the holy mountain to find God.  However, in his zeal for vengeance in God's sake Elijah learns that his path of zeal and violence is not the path God wants from His prophets. Elijah must step down and appoint Elisha as his successor.
